About Our Client

The client are a large, stable and growing business based in Stevenage that are seeking a Payroll Manager for replace someone who is retiring after 12 years in the post. The business specialise in the public sector, leaning on technology and engineering and have a brilliant team dynamic and excellent Senior Leadership Team.

Job Description

  • Management and oversight of the UK payroll service for c. 650 employees - including reviewing the payroll input, performing the validation of monthly data changes, obtaining sign off and providing confirmation to our payroll service providers.
  • Preparation of monthly payrolls, including processing all payroll changes including back pay PAYE & NI reconciliation (including annual activities such as P11D's submission process)
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement across the payroll with a focus on improving efficiencies and automation
  • Respond to and resolve payroll and tax related queries
  • Manage the annual pay review cycle and conduct all the activities in collaboration with the HR Director and HR Business Partners
  • Calculate the payments for the all-colleague annual bonus scheme for all offices
  • Support HR with the discounted benefit and flexible benefit schemes including coordination with external partners
  • Preparation of analytics and insightful reports to the HR & Finance Directorates to inform business decisions
  • Responsible for the preparation of the P11D returns and P11D (b) for reporting on Employer's class 1(A) national insurance contribution.
  • Responsible for payroll month end processing of payroll cash book, journals and providing assistance to Finance colleagues for the reconciliation of payroll general ledger control accounts
  • Notify business on changes to HMRC's advisory fuel rates.
  • Responsible for maintaining documentation of payroll procedures.
  • Management and administration of the employment status indicator checklist for Freelancers. Consultants, and Personal Service Companies (IR35).
  • Responsible for all payroll year end statutory returns.
  • Provide analysis for the gender pay reporting
  • Provide analysis for the apprenticeship levy
  • Support with the monthly auto enrolment letters for pension
  • Support HR with the Annual Benefit Fair
  • To be compliant with the business GDPR requirements when handling payroll data.
  • Any other ad hoc work as directed by line management.

The Successful Applicant

The successful candidate will be available and experienced in the duties listed above, be able to commute to the client offices in Stevenage for 2-3 days per week and be a great team player and experienced Payroll Leader.
