Working at settle

This is an exciting time to join settle. We’re a modern social business providing housing across Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire. We have bold ambitions to deliver on our purpose of helping people who are struggling to find a place to live, because we know that having somewhere to settle has the power to transform people’s lives. With a new Executive Director of Finance and Resources, we’re now recruiting to ensure we have the finance skills in place to deliver these ambitions.

Working at settle brings fantastic opportunities to develop your career in a fast-paced, innovative environment, where colleagues can help shape our business and deliver for our customers every day.  We’re recruiting for a range of roles to build a high-performing finance service that’s proactive, customer-focussed and provides a reliably good service to our customers every day. If these sound like the roles for you, we’d love to hear from you.

Q&A with Richard Blakey, Executive Director of Finance and Resources

Richard Blakely

What are the learning and development opportunities like?

We have ensured that our Finance structure has the opportunity for people to have careers here at settle. There are clear pathways in place for those who are part-qualified or seeking to begin a finance career to develop here and progress. But at the same time, we are committed to ensuring that all members of staff have the opportunity  to continually develop their skills and experiences.

Do I have to have worked in housing previously to apply for these roles?

Absolutely not! We're keen to receive applications from people with all kinds of work experiences. Obviously we expect you to be technically competent but the softer, inter-personal skills are just as important. We want to be a continuously improving finance service and so it will  be great to have people join us from different environments, with different perspectives and challenge us from maintaining our comfortable norms!

What are the non-work highlights?

Definitely the people. There is a real sense of team across the organisation. Lots of things are organised – we have running clubs, quiz nights, the amount of food that is brought in to celebrate successes is  unreal!

In my first week, I had the privilege of being able to attend the settle staff conference. It was a great event and so different to previous work conferences I have been to. This one was held at a campsite under an enormous yurt! It was a really engaging event and then towards the end everyone was able to bring their families down to enjoy a host of activities that had been laid on like treasure hunts, archery and rock climbing. There was such a really great feeling around the place and that best sums up to me what the culture at settle is like.
