Revenue Accountant

Folkestone • Permanent • £30000 - £36000

Reporting into the Group Accountant and directly responsible for 2 Finance Officers, you will:

  • Manage the team, which will include responsibility for performance management, health and safety issues, and learning and development
  • Prepare budgets and forecasts in accordance with the approved budget timetable
  • Monitor budgets and accuracy of coding in accordance with the prescribed deadlines
  • Provide financial information and advice, summary briefings and detailed analysis to service managers and budget holders
  • Manage specific projects in accordance with the project management methodology
  • Produce a draft set of accounts for one specific area of the company and liaise with external auditors to ensure the accounts are audited in a timely fashion
  • Assist the Principal Accountant with preparing relevant accounting entries and statement notes to allow the production of the Statement of Accounts as detailed in the closedown timetable
  • Be responsible for producing the annual cash flow statement
  • Monitor expenditure and income against budget and meet monthly with budget holders to provide accurate financial information to them, ensuring all budget variations are reported to the Group Accountant in a timely manner
  • Deputise and cover for the Group Accountant in their absence
  • Be involved in extensive reconciliations work
  • Support monthly salary monitoring and preparing the salary budget
  • Ad hoc projects within the wider finance function

Who we're looking for

My client is looking for someone that has a strong working knowledge of management accounting. Ideally qualified in AAT and / or part qualified accountant (although not essential,) you will have knowledge of computerised financial information systems and an understanding of how IT can be used to improve effectiveness. You must have a good understanding of Excel and have experience of budget setting, monitoring and closing of accounts. You will also ideally have supervisory experience and a knowledge of local government finance. You must have a good track record of sound financial forecasting with experience of producing cash flow statements.

You must have excellent interpersonal skills and also have good numerical skills. You must be able to organise and prioritise work effectively in order to meet deadlines and you must be able to analyse complex financial data and present this to non-financial recipients. You must be able to motivate others within the section and be a hard-worker and team player. You must be able to work with a great deal of initiative and possess the confidence to challenge senior managers on financial matters.

Where specific UK qualifications are required we will take into account overseas equivalents.
