This stand alone role will be situated within a finance team of 8, and will report directly into the Chief Accountant. The payroll for the company will comprise of circa 125 weekly employees, 75 salaried employees and 45 pensioners. There is also an additional monthly payroll for a subsidiary company which employs 12 staff.
The successful applicant will be solely responsible for all aspects of the payroll function, inclusive of all reporting and accounting. The main accountabilities of the role will be as follows:
- Responsible for all aspects of the processing of both the weekly and monthly payrolls along with the company's pensioners from data collation and input through to payment
- Responsible for the ongoing development of the company's construction industry payroll system
- Responsible for monitoring internal controls relating to payroll and ensuring that these are adhered to
- Ensuring that all Payroll legislation is rigidly adhered to
- Responsible for development and maintenance of management reporting
- HMRC monthly returns/payments and annual returns and all associated year end tasks
- Formulation of all relevant payroll budgets and forecasts in line with the company's reporting cycle
- Liaising with staff and HR regarding queries
- Calculation and payment of expenses in line with both company and industry regulations
- Maintenance of P11D information and submission to HMRC
- Perform all weekly/monthly nominal ledger payroll control account reconciliations
In addition to these responsibilities you will also be the point of contact regarding the issue of fuel cards, the maintenance of the holiday bonus pay sheet and the provision of information for mortgage providers. There will also be various ad hoc duties.
Who we're looking for
To qualify for this role it is essential that you have a solid grounding within a payroll position where you have gained exposure to all aspects of payroll legislation and experience of the construction industry's "working rule" is preferable but not essential. It is also imperative, due to the nature of this position, that you have experience of working within a payroll environment dealing with multi business units.
As you will be collating data from the company's 8 remote business units attention to detail and accuracy are both critical to the role. In addition to this you must be innovative and forward thinking to ensure the continuous improvement of the payroll systems and processes. As with any payroll position this role will require you to work to tight deadlines.
