This is an exciting opportunity for someone with logistics experience to move to an industry leading third party logistics provider in a specialist sector.

Job Description

As Transport Controller for this leading Petrochemical Business based in West Yorkshire you will b responsible for:


  • Dispatch and control work using planning software, ensuring that the plan is completed in full.
  • Ensure that plans received from external customers are vetted for errors, resource availability is checked and any problems are addressed.
  • Co-ordinate the drivers during the shift in order to ensure that their individual schedules are implemented and completed safely.
  • Ensure that customers are advised of any delays or changes to their deliveries.
  • Resolve any issues that arise during the shift, liaising with the planning team to ensure that any cancelled loads that may result in a customer service failure are re-planned urgently.
  • Work close with the planning team in order to ensure that changes to the plan during the shift are effected quickly and accurately, and that the planning system is maintained "live" and that all data entered is accurate.
  • Demonstrate continuous improvement against various internal and external service/efficiency KPIs.
  • Liaise with the planning supervisor and field management team in order to ensure that resources are provided at the appropriate times and that downtime in resource is escalated and managed.
  • Assist the Customer Service Administrators in investigating customer complaints and delivery queries.
  • Record all planning inefficiencies and delays accurately including the reasons for these.

The Successful Applicant


As Transport Controller for this leading Petrochemical Business based in West Yorkshire you must be able to show evidence of the following:


  • Have experience of working in "just in time" road-haulage environment, dealing directly with drivers.
  • Have a confident and friendly telephone manager, and be able to liaise with people at all levels of our organisation.
  • Be a team player who is will to support colleagues during busy periods
  • Demonstrate proficiency in IT, particularly in the use of Microsoft Office Tools Outlook and Excel.
  • Have achieved a GCSE (or equivalent) Grade C or above in Maths and English
  • As this role will involve working to a rotating 12-hr shift pattern, candidate must live within a commutable distance (no more than 45-minutes each way)


  • CPC holder
  • Knowledge of Drivers Hours Regulations and the Working Time Directive

The successful candidate will be offered a salary of up to £25,000 plus shift allowance as well as a competitive benefits package.
