Job Description

This leading FTSE 100 companies Tender Manager position involves the below

  • Ensuring the tenders team effectively manage the tender process from pre-tender engagement through to submission and post-implementation review
  • Working with the Business Units in scoping opportunities and formulating resourcing plans to allow for adequate pre-tender engagement and to ensure submission deadlines are met
  • Developing, implementing and maintaining tender policies, procedures and processes to ensure the best possible tender submissions that maximise the groups likelihood of success
  • Maintaining knowledge of procurement regulations and ensuring the business is kept abreast of potential risks and opportunities emerging from changes in the regulations
  • Driving continuous improvement in the Tenders function and consequently facilitating and driving better commercial decision making
  • Developing and leading a Tenders function with four direct reports ensuring the team has the capacity and the quality to meet the needs of the business. It will include ensuring quality of new recruits, having clear objectives and development plans in place for all direct reports and ensuring resourcing is appropriate to the demand
  • Coaching and guiding the business with respect to the tender process, public procurement regulations and how to adhere to guidelines
  • Proactively managing the end-to-end process involved in tender submissions by working in collaboration with Sales, Marketing, and Supply Chain and other functional stakeholders, ensuring completion and driving value added content in each submission
  • Reviewing legal and commercial content of the tender documents to limit group risk and where necessary seeking legal guidance

The Successful Applicant

Experience and desired skillset required:

  • Experience within the pharmaceuticals, medical or healthcare industry would be highly advantageous but not essential
  • Previous experience of managing, leading and developing a team
  • Process improvement training or experience would be advantageous
  • Analytical with developed numeric capability
  • Ability to drive continuous process improvement across a matrix organisation
  • Strong commercial acumen
  • Competent in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint)
  • Prior experience of interacting with the public sector and working with a sales team and/or in a customer facing role
  • Experience of NHS procurement process advantageous but not essential
  • Knowledge of EU Legislation and Competition Law regarding procurement is essential
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
