Job Description

  • Work to ensure the effective, cost controlled provision of day to day maintenance services in compliance with all relevant statutory legislation, Health Technical Memorandum (HTM) guidance and approved codes of practice.
  • Work in partnership with the Estates Supervisor (Buildings) to oversee the day to day supervision of the in-house Engineering Team and external contract providers with respect to defect works, new works requests and programmed Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) of engineering plant, equipment and services in accordance with defined NHS standards and procedures to all Trust properties as required.
  • Manage the delivery of minor works projects i.e. backlog maintenance, small upgrades etc.
  • Carry out a technical liaison role to assist with the design and delivery of capital projects and other estates related services.
  • Manage and monitor the Trust's various software programmes and systems that are used to manage their estate and implement appropriate actions to resolve all issues.
  • Oversee (and when required undertake) routine and non-routine unsupervised planned corrective and breakdown maintenance work on complex plant, equipment and engineering services within the NHS Foundation Trust (and any other contracted organisation).
  • Provide training, technical advice and support to trade staff, maintenance assistants, trainees/apprentices and clinical and non-clinical staff as required.

  • Undertake Authorised Person (AP) roles. The ability to undertake these roles will be dependent on existing knowledge, specific training and authorisation by an Authorising Engineer (AE) for that role. These disciplines may include but not be exhaustive to:
      1. Hot and Cold Water Systems
      2. Ventilation

    In addition to these systems, the post holder must be willing to undertake Authorised/Responsible or Competent Person duties (as deemed necessary) with respect to other key engineering systems across the Trust such as Medical Gas Pipeline Systems and Building Management System.

    • Ensure Health and Safety is risk assessed, adequate controls implemented and maintained at all times in the working area to ensure the health and safety of yourself and others.

    The Successful Applicant

    The candidate must be able to work day and night shifts on a flexible rota

    Mechanical, electrical and plumbing knowledge is required

    17th Edition Electrical qualification

    NVQ Level 3 or higher in mechanical engineering

    • Utilise computerised Building Management Systems to monitor engineering systems and controls, acknowledge alarms/faults and take remedial actions
    • Carry out routine planned and breakdown maintenance and emergency tasks without direct supervision on complex plant, equipment and engineering services including, but not exhaustive to:
      • hot and cold water systems
      • heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems
      • emergency lighting systems
      • standby emergency generators and associated equipment
      • fire alarm systems
      • building management control systems
      • low voltage electrical fixed installations
      • portable electrical appliances
      • medical gas pipeline systems
        • Schedule, plan and manage direct labour workloads and delegate complex programmes of work/activities to building and engineering contractors, some of which are ongoing and require frequent adjustments
        • Efficiently and effectively organise resources including labour, transport and materials (including requisition supply, deployment and security) on a number of Trust sites
        • Assist with the practical implementation of the computerised Estates Management System in terms of processing work dockets, ensuring work is carried out in priority order and within acceptable timeframes whilst ensuring KPI targets are achieved and maintained at all times.
        • Assist in organising fixed wiring installation testing to ensure compliance with appropriate standards, using all relevant Trust equipment, completing all test sheets for user records
        • Operate the departmental Job Docket System, manage the plan board and verify completed job dockets for reconciliation and cost analysis
