About Our Client

My client is based in Devizes, Wiltshire. They are currently relocating their payroll function so need a temporary Payroll & Pensions Officers for 3 months to deal with Local Government and Final Pay Pensions.

Job Description

  • Provide a payroll service to all Group staff ensuring correct salaries and allowances are paid and relevant deductions made.

  • Complete reconciliation of the payroll to nominal ledger.

  • Maintain records of all deductions paid and arrange payment to relevant scheme including pensions, trade unions etc.

  • Ensure relevant payments are made as required ensuring compliance with legislation including Statutory Sick Pay, Occupational Sick Pay, Statutory Maternity, Adoption, Paternity and Occupational Maternity Pay.

  • In line with the Payroll Manager prepare BACS transfer, working with Finance to ensure salaries are paid on time.

  • Produce management information, costing of salaries, statistics and reports as required, including returns to HM Revenues and Customs.

  • Receive instructions and resolve queries relating to new starters, transfers, leavers and any changes to salaries and deductions.

  • Comply with the HM Revenue and Customs on all PAYE matters.

  • Maintain accurate computerised and manual personal records relating to employees ensuring confidentiality and compliance with Data protection legislation.

  • Enter data onto payroll, run reports and be aware of the monthly process as required.

  • Proactively review processes for improving efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Work effectively with all County Pension Funds covering Aster Group companies, the Social Housing Pension Scheme (SHPS) and other funds where appropriate.

  • Maintain appropriate records of staff pension details and submit monthly/annual returns as per the pension act and scheme guidance by required deadlines.

  • Complete pension administration to include, change of contributions, leavers, retirement and ill health estimates.

  • Provide initial information to staff on the implications of membership of pension schemes, referring to Scheme Administrators where necessary.

  • Promote and maintain a customer focus in line with the Aster Group Customer Charter. Provide the highest quality service incorporating best standards and practice and work to continually improve the standards in place.

  • Promote and maintain an active approach to health and safety, in respect of yourself, colleagues and customers.

  • Ensure that the Aster Group Equality & Diversity Policy is fully implemented at all times.

  • Undertake any other duties as may be reasonably be required by either the Payroll Manager

The Successful Applicant

GCSEs or equivalent including Maths and English

Professional qualification in Payroll i.e. IPPM

Experience of managing and running a payroll in a medium sized organisation

Previous experience of pensions administration

Previous experience of costing estimates and reconciliations

Previous experience of computerised payroll systems

Employment legislation relevant to duties i.e. Payroll, pensions

Computer literate in Microsoft office suite including Excel, Word, Outlook etc

Excellent numeracy, financial and literacy skills

Ability to work effectively and provide mutual support within a team

Experience of producing and manipulating management information from raw data and databases

Intermediate excel skills

Ability to explain changes to systems/ procedures clearly and effectively
