About Our Client

We have several opportunities within NHS hospitals based in London and surrounding areas.

Job Description

  • Undertake maintenance, repairs, minor improvements and minor capital work across
  • the Trust, ensuring compliance with Trust safety standards and procedures.
  • To check, test and service mechanical installations plant and equipment daily within the main hospital.
  • Diagnose and repair faults in mechanical engineering and basic electrical
  • installations, plant and equipment and to actively respond with new situations as they
  • arise and pass on knowledge to others.. To carry out all repairs to mechanical installations, plant and equipment to a high
  • standard ensuring all Trust policies and procedures are followed.
  • To actively support and be responsible for all aspects of gas / oil fire steam raising
  • plant, steam distribution and condensate systems, water softening plant, heating and
  • domestic hot water systems and associated plumbing services. Air conditioning plant
  • and compressed air plant together with thorough practical workshop knowledge.
  • To carry out changeovers of compressors, vacuum pumps, air drying equipment and hot water heat exchanges weekly.
  • To be conversant with pressure systems and transportable gas container regulations,
  • particularly in relation to the operation and maintenance of steam and compressed
  • air plant, equipment and distribution systems.
  • To interpret pressure systems drawings as well as undertake maintenance and
  • inspection routines as required by the written schemes of examination.
  • work as a recognised competent person in accordance with HTM 04-01 Part A and
  • Part B and HSE Guidance, The Approved Code of Practice (ACOP) L8 Legionnaires
  • Disease.
  • To be required to carry out maintenance and test routines associated with sterilizers
  • and washer disinfectors following training and assessment to the standard of the
  • relevant HTM.
  • Complete water temperature checks and timed flushing of taps, showers and other
  • water outlets, completing a record sheet, for potential audit.
  • To unblock and maintain drains, toilets, sewers and waste disposal units throughout
  • the hospital.
  • To test the water softening plant on a daily basis and add bags on salt to the unit as
  • and when required.
  • To instruct others on all aspects of their work and carry out training to promote
  • individual specialities.

The Successful Applicant

  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent, in English and Mathematics, alternatively have proven work experience with transferable skills.
  • Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Recognised and evidenced trade training.
  • Computer literate including the use of Microsoft Office.
  • Safety standards and procedures.
  • Mechanical practices and systems
  • To have experience working in an Estates Department within the NHS.
  • To have sound technical experience in all mechanical trades within an Estates function including plant and air pumping installations.
  • Proven experience of working with air conditioning systems,
  • heating controls and pressure systems
