Job Description

  • Grant administration and claims: to assist and/or prepare & submit grant claims in accordance with the funding bodies guidelines.
  • Take the lead with budget holders, including queries and provide relevant and timely advice to staff across Centrepoint.
  • Prepare or assist in preparation of scheme budgets for new bids and tenders and regular assessment of on-going projects, based on approved costing standards.

  • To be responsible for reconciling relevant balance sheet accounts- including accruals, deferred account balances plus, when necessary, specific reconciliation of Supporting People grant, rough sleepers (former homelessness directorate) grants and other statutory grants and donations, liaising with Contract and Information and Fundraising colleagues as required.
  • To take responsibility for and prepare aspects of the annual statutory accounts and the audit of grants including preparing grant usage statements in line with funders' guidelines.
  • Manage and prioritise workload ensuring deadlines are met.
  • To deputise for the Finance Manager - Business Support as and when required.
  • To maintain the Fixed Asset register, including transferring capital items from I&E, monthly depreciation and component accounting for properties.
  • Creating account/budget/post reference codes on SUN and iPOS
  • Providing system support on iPOS i.e creating new users, granting approval access, update approval hierarchy, creating item codes, delivery addresses ensuring they adhere to our financial requirements.
  • Liasing with our systems providers in relation to new upgrades, serialisation renewal and other technical issues.
  • Checking the BACs/Cheque and petty cash payments reports.
  • Checking the payroll timesheets occasionally
  • Creating bespoke reports on Vision Executive and excel to enable budget holders to effectively manage their areas.
  • Analysing salary details with HR to ensure that finance and HR posts are aligned
  • Prepare service charge expenditure returns for SHiP
  • Assist in the annual rent setting process
  • Provide management accounts and annual budget training to budget holders
  • To accurately record and monitor data, set targets and evaluate performance outcomes

The Successful Applicant

  1. Able to communicate effectively with other managers and staff across the charity, listening carefully, responding appropriately, and presenting financial information clearly and in a non-technical way.
  1. Able to accept accountability and show initiative to meet team and departmental targets.
  1. Good problem solving skills, with the tenacity to see things through and tactfulness to carry others along.
  1. Able to prioritise, balancing competing demands and keeping others informed whilst ensuring key targets and commitments are met.

  1. Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills, with the ability to analyse and communicate financial information to non-financial people.
  1. Able to use effective leadership skills to support and develop a multi-disciplinary team approach to delivering the whole range of financial services within the role
  2. Knowledge and understanding of relevant accounting standards and management reporting. Including, GAAP, Charity SORP, RSL SORP, Charity and Company legislation, etc.
  1. Professional accounting qualification (ACA, CIMA, ACCA, CIPFA etc) plus demonstrable post qualification experience or extensive demonstrable on-the-job experience in a similar role.
