Job Description

  • To diagnose and undertake all maintenance related repairs & faults to mechanical installations, plant and equipment, as directed from the Supervisor.
  •  To deal with new situations as they arise and pass on knowledge to others.
  •  To understand the working of the mechanical and plumbing systems in hospital buildings.
  •  To carry out repairs, maintain and efficiently run plant and equipment.
  •  To advise on mechanical planned preventative maintenance system to confirm that all scheduled items are being undertaken n the most efficient and effective manner.
  •  To have an understanding of water treatment systems.
  •  To have an understanding of Legionnaires Disease and its control and documentation.
  •  To interpret and work from all instructions, drawings and specification appropriate to the trade, without supervision.
  •  To be aware of the water regulations.
  •  To carry out any other duties required by management relevant to the post.
  •  To work unsupervised as part of the Maintenance team in an occupied environment and able to understand mental health problems.
  •  To be versatile and perform a wide range of other trades within the levels of competence
  •  To respect confidentiality at all times.
  •  To maintain consistently high professional standards and act in accordance with the relevant professional code of conduct.
  •  To work safely with tools ensuring a controlled working area.
  •  To use technical skills to provide an efficient, quality, value for money service.
  •  To have a flexible approach to your work, being able to work outside of normal hours should circumstances dictate.
  •  To support the development of performance standards to meet customers needs and provide a responsive service.
  •  To be aware of responsibilities to protect service users, visitors and employees against the risk of acquiring health care associated infections.
  •  To be aware of monitored quality related maintenance and minor improvement work undertaken by Trust maintenance staff and contractors, to confirm compliance, timescales, standards and value for money against the measured SLA.
  •  To undertake appropriate completion of authorised Facilities Management Improvement requests directed by supervisors, which includes manufacturing, erecting, assembling and installing new work.
  •  To be able to work alongside all other trades and contractors and creating harmonious team working,
  •  To have a good understanding of all aspects of fire safety.

The Successful Applicant

This maintenance plumber job requires the candidate to have the following:

Background in maintenance plumbing

Hospital background is desirable not essential

City and guilds level 2 or 3 in Plumbing

Must have a worked in an environment where they have worked on reactive maintenance and planned preventive maintenance.

Knowledge of COSHH, health and safety at work

Knowledge of hot and cold water systems
