About Our Client

This position is required at various NHS hospitals located around central London area.

Job Description

Undertake maintenance, repairs, minor improvements and minor works

across the Trust, ensuring compliance with Trust safety standards and


2. Carry out remedial works and emergency repairs and isolations as and when

required working proactively with outsourced contractors.

3. To check, test and service installations plant and equipment daily within the

main hospital and associated locations.

4. To ensure statutory compliance of all HTM's relevant to Estates services,

when trained to do so.

Diagnose and repair faults

in mechanical and electrical engineering and basic electrical installations,

plant and equipment and to actively respond with new situations as they arise

and pass on knowledge to others.

6. To carry out all repairs to mechanical installations, plant and equipment to a

high standard ensuring all Trust policies and procedures are followed.

7. Undertake portable electrical equipment and fixed installation testing and

general inspection as required.

8. Follow planned maintenance schedules under the instruction of the


9. Use all relevant hand and power tools and other equipment within safety

guidelines as necessary for the completion of any works.

10. To actively support and be responsible for all aspects of gas / oil fire steam

raising plant, steam distribution and condensate systems, water softening

plant, heating and domestic hot water systems and associated plumbing

services. Air conditioning plant and compressed air plant together with

thorough practical workshop knowledge.

11. To carry out changeovers of compressors, vacuum pumps, air drying

equipment and hot water heat exchanges weekly.

12. To be conversant with pressure systems and transportable gas container

regulations, particularly in relation to the operation and maintenance of steam

and compressed air plant, equipment and distribution systems.

13. To interpret pressure systems drawings as well as undertake maintenance

and inspection routines as required by the written schemes of examination.

14. Awareness of Legionnaire's measures associated with building services. To

carry out work as a recognised competent person in accordance with HTM

04-01 Part A and Part B and HSE Guidance, The Approved Code of Practice

(ACOP) L8 Legionnaires Disease.

15. To be required to carry out maintenance and test routines associated with

sterilizers and washer disinfectors following training and assessment to the

standard of the relevant HTM.

16. Complete water temperature checks and timed flushing of taps, showers and

other water outlets, completing a record sheet, for potential audit.

17. To unblock and maintain drains, toilets, sewers and waste disposal units

throughout the hospital.

18. To test the water softening plant on a daily basis and add bags on salt to the

unit as and when required.

The Successful Applicant

Candidates must hold relevant industry qualifications -

  • Proven experience in a similar role
  • City & Guilds 2391, or 2394 or the EAL Level 3 Award in the Initial Verification and Certification of Electrical Installations and the City & Guilds 2395 or the EAL Level 3 Award in the Periodic, Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations contain common theory.
  • 17th Edition IEE Regulations
  • Appropriate knowledge of Health and Safety and environmental requirements related to delivery of the assigned tasks
  • Plumbing/Mechanical skills desirable
