Job Description

The Credit Manager Opportunity will involve:

  • Formulate and implement measures to reduce and control customer receivables
  • Direct own staff and sales team to ensure overdue debts are collected promptly in the most effective, appropriate manner e.g. telephone, fax, letter, e-mail, personal visit, recovery of product.
  • To engage the services of solicitors or debt collection agencies when appropriate to expedite customer payment.
  • Control a "stop" system where customers are defaulting on payment. Advise all interested parties within the company, of the contents and status of customers on the "stop" list.
  • Review regularly the credit limits and terms for existing customers in relation to payment history, applications for changed terms via sales teams, special deals information, etc. Take necessary action to mitigate company's bad debts risks and advise appropriate departments.
  • Set reasonable credit limits and terms for new customers, based on information obtained in point below.
  • Obtain credit worthiness information from various information sources - Sales Teams etc. - in order to assess new customers or, re-assess existing customers.
  • Review monthly report for Receivables and Overdue debts, in accordance with prescribed format, for inclusion in the Company Finance Pack.
  • Provide advice on level of bad and doubtful debts to Financial Controller - Accounting & Holdings and Finance & IT Director for booking into the accounting system.
  • Represent company at the monthly credit committee meeting of BRMA, or other trade associations as and when necessary.
  • Ensure the day to day Credit Control function operates smoothly, during own periods of absence. This especially concerns operation of the "stop" system and obtaining credit reports.
  • Attend sales/marketing meetings to present Credit Control policies and deal with problem areas with a view to containing credit exposure.
  • Ongoing communication with customers, including personal visits to progress account queries, collect overdue monies, offer commercial advise, acquire market knowledge

The Successful Applicant

The Successful Credit Manager Candidate will:

  • Currently be working as a Credit Manager
  • Have managed multiple staff members before.
