Job Description

Banking Clerk duties and responsibilities

  • Oversees and coordinates payments on behalf of the business including AP and Payroll
  • Ensures all payments have been distributed to authorisers and submitted before the relevant cut off times
  • Produces of a payment log of manual payments
  • Co-ordinates European F24 tax payments
  • Monitors the bank accounts for rejected payments/account balances
  • Acts as the main point of contact between the bank and the business with regards to payments processed
  • Reconciles the month end bank accounts
  • Maintains all credit cards within the business and issues any new applications to the bank
  • Ensures bank signatories are updated in a timely manner and acts as keeper of the bank mandate files
  • Supports the treasury counterparty confirmation process
  • Covers for absences within the team
  • Proactively challenges the current processes to identify opportunities to simplify and therefore enhance the current control framework
  • Develops relationship with key cash management suppliers to identify opportunities to simplify processes
  • Keeps updated with cash management trends both internal and external to ensure that back office capability remains fit for purpose
  • Adhoc - deals with any other requests which come into the function
  • Maintaining full control of the cashier function at all times. This should be measured by the success of completed payments on a daily basis.
  • Monitoring of the banking systems during the day to identify any unusual activity on the accounts which can be rectified/investigated as early as possible. Rejections are fed back to the relevant team for correction to achieve straight through processing in the second submission.
  • Measuring the number of manual payments from around the business monthly and looking at ways to educate the business of cost saving around the payments function.

The Successful Applicant


  • Significant experience of operating in a fast paced banking/cashiering role
  • Excellent communication skills and be able to discuss and raise issues
  • Expert in using different payment types e.g BACS, CHAPS and experience of processing international payments
  • Must have a real drive to instigate, embrace and implement change
  • Someone who demonstrates attention to detail
  • Able to manage own time across variety of tasks and projects to deliver to deadlines
  • Strong planning /organisation skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters
  • Intermediate to advanced MS Office Skills - including extensive knowledge of Excel
