About Our Client

My client is a well established, reputable brand. They are currently seeking an immediately available Accounts Assistant to join them on a temporary basis. There could be longer term opportunities for the right candidate.

Job Description

The role will involve:

Purchase Ledger

  • Process external and intercompany purchase invoices and credit notes on the company system BAAN including matching with purchase orders, checking, ensuring VAT is correct and obtaining authorisations where necessary
  • Reconcile supplier statements and identify any missing invoices for follow up with suppliers
  • Process subcontractor invoices including verification of new subcontractors with HMRC
  • Review and close down unwanted PO lines in consultation with the actual buyer and resolve queries if any
  • Process weekly BACS payment runs as per agreed payment terms
  • Review invoices in register which are more than 60 days old and take corrective action
  • Scanning and filing of purchase ledger invoices and staff expense claims to respective folder
  • Maintenance of payment cash book and daily bank reconciliation
  • Reconciliation of intercompany supplier accounts during the month end process
  • Monthly submission of CIS return to HMRC
  • Process intercompany payments through Netting system

Staff Expense Claims

  • Check expenses and receipts to ensure they're accurately recorded and the supporting documentation is adequate i.e. VAT invoice where applicable. Ensure that expenses comply with HMRC legislation and raise any queries with the Finance Manager in a timely manner.
  • Administration of Barclaycard account including monthly submission of supporting documents and statement by staff

Sales Ledger

  • Allocation of cash received from customers
  • Maintenance of receipt cash book and daily bank reconciliation
  • Handling of accounts receivable queries

Month and Year-end Accounts

The Successful Applicant

The ideal candidate will:

    • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
    • Accounts experience ideally within construction industry
    • Good IT and analytical skills with attention to detail.
    • A committed attitude with the willingness to learn
    • Good knowledge of accounting principles and their application in preparation of financial statements
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills
    • Previous use of general ledger accounting systems
    • Part or fully qualified AAT or qualified by experience
  • Confident, with the ability to prioritise, delegate and meet deadlines working under pressure
